Ridley Township Board of Commissioners Chairman Robert Willert, Police Capt. Scott Willoughby, and township managers Edward Pisani and Joseph Ryan were named in the 45-page suit filed Tuesday.
“Ridley Township cannot comment on facts of the suit because we have not been served, but we question the timing of the lawsuit as it comes after the police department’s restructuring," township officials said in a statement.
The suit alleges that Willert suspect that a pair of police detectives fave the FBI information against the township. The detectives were then suddenly reassigned, allegedly as retaliation, the suit says.
The suit includes claims dating back to 2014, including one that says the detectives were given $8,000 from their captain, then told to repackage that evidence in a case accusing a county employee of monetary theft.
The detectives went to township managers Pisani and Ryan with their concerns about their boss' actions, and feared retaliation, the suit says. Pisani apparently told Willoughby about the detectives' claims, and the officers continued to "live in fear" of Willoughby disclosing their undercover identities.
Willoughby apparently planned to release their undercover identities to his “ni**ers” on the streets, and threatened the detectives with physical assault.
The suit claims that the pair suffered injuries, including but not limited to severe emotional pain and suffering, sleep deprivation, severe emotional distress, the loss of income, loss of consortium, and other continuing injuries due to Willoughby's actions.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined comment to CBS, and a spokesperson for the FBI told the outlet they would not confirm or deny the presence of FBI agents in Ridley Township.
